Michael Kalisman MD




Bio

Michael Kalisman, MD holds a medical degree from Hebrew University in Jerusalem Israel.  He completed a three year residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in general surgery and a two year residency at the Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. Dr. Kalisman was appointed as a chief resident on his second year of training at the Montefiore and Albert Einstein Hospitals.  Following this training, Dr. Kalisman became a one year Christine Kleinert Fellow at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, where Dr. Kalisman trained in hand surgery and microsurgery. After completing a fellowship in hand surgery and microsurgery at the University of Louisville, Dr. Kalisman returned to the attending staff and faculty of the New York St Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Centers-Columbia University, Beth Israel Medical Center and Cabrini Medical Center all in New York City. Dr. Kalisman passed the thorough examinations required to become board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery in 1982.

Dr. Kalisman was able to share his extensive knowledge of plastic surgery as associate clinical professor of surgery at New York Medical College and assistant clinical professor of surgery at Columbia University in the City of New York.
Dr. Kalisman ‘s professional memberships include the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS life member),  The American Association for Hand Surgery, Lipolysis Society of North America (senior member), Northeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, New York Academy of Medicine (where Dr. Kalisman was elected chairman of the plastic surgery section 1988-1989), International Federations for Hand Surgery, Interamerican College of Physicians & Surgeons, and The Royal Society of Medicine (UK).  As a member of these societies, Dr. Kalisman keeps up to date on the latest cosmetic and reconstructive surgery techniques, enabling him to offer the best service to his patients.
Dr. Kalisman attended New York University Stern School of Business from 1985-1987 and received his MBA degree in finance.  Since his graduation from business school, Dr. Kalisman has been involved with community and outreach educational programs at home and aboard. Currently, Dr. Kalisman is serving on National Endowment for Plastic Surgery Board of Governors. In 2003, Dr. Kalisman was inducted into the prestigious  Maliniac  Society as a Maliniac fellow at the American Society of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Kalisman has written and presented numerous papers and book chapters on a broad spectrum of subjects in the surgical fields of aesthetic, reconstructive, plastic, hand and microsurgery. Dr. Kalisman is very interested in travel and is a contributor to the South American Handbook.
